University of Toledo Adopt-a-Grandparent
ABOUT US
Adopt-a-Grandparent was founded in November of 2013. However, the idea was formed years before when a young nurse's aide cared for many lonely nursing homes residents who desired companionship. She dreamed of bringing energetic youth into facilities that rarely had visitors. With the help of some friends at the University of Toledo, Adopt-a-Grandparent became a reality.
Adopt-a-Grandparent is currently partnered with the West Park Place Retirement Community.
Adopt-a-Grandparent sponsors regular events and activities at a Toledo area skilled nursing facility. The group promotes one-on-one relationships with the residents, which are key to combating loneliness. Volunteers not only have the opportunity to make a difference to the senior residents, but also can be impacted by the experience.
